Light Drawing Tools
Any source of light works to create this art and each different light source gives different results.
LEDs: LEDs come in several colors and work great for drawing fine detail. Single LEDs can be found on keychains, some flash lights use multiple LEDs, and hundreds of LEDs make up modern traffic lights. Don't laugh, you will find LED traffic lights at flea markets in the not too distant future.
I was not happy with the keychain LED lights and built my own. Here is the instructable.
Any flashlight can be used to draw, except maybe those huge 3 million candle power deals. Use those to light "paint" large structures and huge sewer pipes, but that is another subject. If you can only find white lights, get some colored theater lighting gels to add color to your drawing.
Glow sticks will work but they do not turn off. You have to stick them in a sock to control them.
Your cell phone not only is a camera but it lights up too and you can draw with it in a pinch.
You can buy all kinds of unusal things that light up. There are web sites that sell blinking and spinning lights for ravers. There are web sites that sell poi and nunchuka sticks that light up and produce a brilliant show. There are light wands that can spell out entire sentences.
Take long exposures of car head and taillights and fireworks. Candles and campfires can work. Get it? Anything that lights up and moves will give you the affect we are discussing here.
Laser pointers also work. These are especially good for drawing on walls as you can face away from the camera and the wall reflects back the narrow beam.
